commissions

Thank you for your interest in commissioning me. This page outlines what to expect when we work together—how I approach projects, what I can promise, and the principles that guide my process.

Focus

My creative work centers on Dungeons & Dragons 5e - primarily the 2014 ruleset, though I can also work with the 2024 ruleset. Every commission is a collaboration. Whether it’s a single spell or a subclass, I approach it with the same intent: to create something lasting, balanced, and playable—something that feels alive at the table.

Commissions & Pricing
Every project begins with a conversation about scope and intent. These rates reflect typical design lengths, the research and playtesting required, and the level of polish each piece receives. Prices may vary slightly depending on complexity, integration with existing systems, or special formatting needs.

Commissions are divided into two general categories based on scope and depth of design:

  • Small Projects

Compact, focused work—usually a page or less. These include individual spells, feats, items, backgrounds, or simple monsters. Small commissions are the most accessible and ideal for quick collaborations or drop-in content.

  • Large Projects

Broader designs spanning 2–4 pages, such as subclasses, species, or multi-CR creature and NPC statblocks. Full classes and major system modules also fall under this category, though they are accepted on a case-by-case basis due to their extensive development time.
I can create content for any official class, my own homebrew systems, or trusted third-party frameworks.

    • Spell — $50
A custom spell or cantrip written in official 5e style.
      Average length: 150–250 words.
Includes mechanical design, scaling balance, and optional lore flavor.

    • Feat — $75
A custom feat or mechanical upgrade.
      Average length: 200–300 words.
Designed for clean balance and optional thematic integration.

    • Magic Item — $75
A unique or thematic magic item.
      Average length: 200–350 words.
Includes rarity calibration, creative flavor text, and clear mechanics.

    • Monster or NPC — $100
Custom creature, statblock, or NPC design.
      Average length: 300–500 words.
Includes CR math, encounter balance, and narrative context.

    • Background — $125
A fully developed background with feature, traits, and flavor.
      Average length: 500–800 words.
Includes hooks for roleplay, personality, and world integration.

    • Species or Lineage — $150–200
A playable race, lineage, or ancestry.
      Average length: 1,000–1,500 words.
Includes multiple heritages or subtypes, design balance, and optional lore presentation.

    • Subclass or Archetype — $175–250
A complete subclass for any official or approved homebrew class.
Average length: 1,200–2,000 words (usually 1–2 pages).
Includes level-by-level design, flavor text, and internal balance review.

    • Full Class or System Module — Quoted Individually
For full class builds, large systems, or multi-page settings.
Generally ranges from $100–150 per page, depending on scope and required testing.

Restrictions

I don’t take NSFW projects, nor do I forward them to collaborators. I also reserve the right to decline any commission for any reason. If a concept proves unworkable in design, you can either reassign your commission or request a full refund.

Other Systems

While I’m open to non-5e projects, these require a separate agreement due to additional research time, which means rates will be higher.

Timelines

Commissions are scheduled on a monthly basis. Direct commissions are scheduled first-come, first-served, with a mutually agreed delivery window.

A typical development cycle runs about four weeks: two weeks for a playable draft and two for refinement. Complex projects may take longer, but communication remains open throughout.

Rights and Licensing

I retain copyright for all commissioned work. You will receive a permanent, irrevocable license for non-commercial use and distribution, with proper credit. (CC BY-NC-ND)

You’ll be credited in the finished piece. If you’d like to use the work commercially—or wish for temporary exclusivity preventing me from publishing it independently—we can discuss additional terms.

Payment Structure

For Large commissions:
• 20% deposit up front
• 30% after the first playable draft
• 50% on final delivery

For Small commissions:
• 50% up front
• 50% on completion

Payment can be made via Patreon, Stripe invoice (soon), or PayPal.
If payment is delayed, work pauses until resolved.

If you’re unhappy with the first draft, we can realign expectations or adjust scope. Refunds may be issued at my discretion but aren’t guaranteed.

Editing and Consultation

If you’d like my help purely as an editor—refining mechanics, improving balance, or tightening prose—I’m available for that as well. Editing rates generally follow those recommended by the Editorial Freelancers’ Association, adjusted for scope and availability.
